MiseryWhile I was out having fun, I lost my oldest friend: my dog, Checkers. Mainly, I feel bad for not thinking about him more than once, and for being so far from him when he died. He died alone and locked in a cage in a vet clinic.
I can't keep myself from crying.
When we picked him out, we had just learned that my dad had cancer. I was so young, having a dog to keep me company was the best thing I could ask for.
And he seemed like my last connection to my recently deceased grandpa. The two of them would always sit our front porch and watch the world.
My best friend. My brother. My Checkers.
I love you boy.
